What to wear when travelling

This morning I was having a scroll on Pinterest while I had my coffee and I guess we are getting to that season of holidays and travelling as every other pin seemed to be advertising a ‘travel fit.’ And I love to see what others are recommending but to be honest I was pretty disappointed so I decided to do my own version - explaining what to wear and why, when you are travelling.

Woman in short red dress and black heeled sandals on tarmac by an airplane.

  1. Every travel pin I saw had wide legged trousers on it. I LOVE wide legged trousers - they are great but not for travelling! 1 word - toilets! Unless you can tuck your trousers into your socks everytime before you use the loo whether that is at the airport or on the plane - please please please stick to skirts/ dresses, cuffed trousers or skinny jeans - anything that won’t be touching the floor!

  2. Footwear. Don’t wear sandals! I mean I get it - you want to be beach ready for when you land but again toilets (gross) and in case you just think I am just paranoid about toilet germs on my feet - planes are also pretty cold, which means that your feet can get quite cold on the flight so I would recommend close top shoes!

  3. Jumpsuits with a jumper on top! Who can be arsed to get 100% undressed every time they need to wee - not me! Enough said - separates make infinitely more sense!

  4. Regardless of where you are going pack a jumper or a big scarf for the flight to keep you warm. Once the initial heat of running to your gate or queuing in the heat to board wears off it almost always gets chilly on the flight. It’s always nice to have something to wrap around you to keep you cosy.

  5. Cool and casual! As much as I would love to be disembarking my flight looking like Victoria Beckham, the reality is even she has not endured the flight in that dress and heels. Long haul flights are tiring, and draining on your body - opt for natural fabrics that will allow your skin to breathe, and nothing too tight on the body. Comfort is king!

If you are meeting someone on your arrival that you want to look hot for, OR are going straight to a work meeting I suggest you change at the airport after landing if you can. Or if you don’t have that time, change before landing.

Of course for a short haul flight - you don’t need to be so focused on comfort!

  6. And don’t forget to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated! It can be hard to say no to alcohol onboard (especially if it is a free alcohol flight) but avoiding the booze and drinking water is the KEY to looking your best when you disembark at your end destination!
